Low Tide

Curated Exhibition

salvaged glass

April 23 – May 17, 2014

Location

Moore College of Art & Design, Philadelphia, PA

Along the riverbanks of Wahataquenak, glass bottles surface from the wetlands like quiet witnesses to a history still lived. For the fishermen who call this place home, these objects are not decorative, nor are they souvenirs—they are fragments of a working life deeply tied to the water, the land, and generations of memory. This exhibition honors a community that continues to live off the grid, fishing as their ancestors did, and collecting these bottles not for art’s sake, but as part of their daily rhythm. In a time when rural spaces face pressure from tourism and development, these bottles remind us of the value found in self-sufficiency, stewardship, and holding onto a sense of place.
